How good was the Band? Bloody awesome!!
As was the YA & give a cheer too for the crowd participation.Fantastic!!
This was a particularly bizarre game. The Mariners could have had three or four early goals yet Adelaide had most of the ball. Justin Pasfield did not have a shot to save but was probably the Mariners best player.
the starting side is beginning to take shape and of those guys, JP, Storm, Ando, Fitz, Matty, Flores, Dukey, have not played regular football last year. Get them all 90 minute fit and we will be hard to beat and will smash the bad teams. Good result and Matty Simon "The Human Windmill" looked awesome when he came on... yes missed a sitter but ...it is Matty after all
The Mariners have an air about them...they are capable of dealing with anyone... it seems that there is belief in themselves which borders on the proper side of arrogance. the engine is revving, waiting to kick into full throttle as the season develops.
Already they are shaping as serious contenders.
Monty was one of our best he was everywhere in midfield, but Pasfield is MoM simply because he did everything so well even if he didn’t have a shot to save. He commanded the penalty area, played the ball out calmly and even gave us a couple of Ryanesque type long kicks direct to our players – which the bench applauded. The back four all did well, Sainsbury even gave us with a surging run in the first half, Ando was a 100% on last time we saw him, and Fitzgerald and Duke ran all day. Flores wasn’t at his best but still gave us moments of magic; McGlinchey was quiet by his standards.
3pt rose
2pt monty
1pt Storm and Flores
Storm 8. Looks like the buy of the season.
Rose 8. Brilliant. Great in defence and attack. The best he has played in a long time.
Tesco 7.5. Good game. Only worry is he sometimes allows his man to slip away from him. Tighten that up and he will dominate.
Ando 7.5. Much much better.
Weemac 7.5. Great to have him back. A couple of nice free kicks as well.
Hutcho 7.5. Did a solid job....apart from the shot.
Monty 8. Top game. He could end up player of the year at the current rate.
Fitzy 7.5. Great first goal and looked really lively. Would have been a 9 but for the missed hatrick. Starting to look the business.
Flores 8. So much class. Lovely feet. Also would have got a 9 but faded badly in last 15.
Duke 7. Did well on the goal but not in top form ATM.
Simon 8. Two bad misses but wow what a cameo. Scared the shit out of the Pissant defenders and his work rate was amazing. I wish he had come on earlier.
Man of match ..very hard to separate....Rose, Storm, Monty and Flores with Fitzy getting a mention in the dispatches.
Great crowd for a long distance visitors game..9, 102 and the YA were fantastic
Credit to the stands tonight....it gives me a buzz when they sing.
NOW...a point of conjecture...the "Are we Happy " song....guys, yellow army ..whoever....HALF THE GUYS IN THE SONG HAVE LEFT OR RETIRED...sort it out , its sounds daft
here are some new lyrics
The Boss said after the game:
“We got a clean sheet and there were a lot of promising signs,” Arnold said. “The good thing was that the boys stuck to the game plan, and had good character even though we missed chance after
chance.”
“I will also say this is the best start that we’ve had in the three years I have had at the Club. We are probably at about 50 per cent of where we will be in another four or five weeks.”
“As a team the way we do things is we build into the season. We don’t want to hit round one in great form and fall away. We want to be hitting our straps a few more rounds in.”
if that's what Arnie reckons...its gonna get scary for the rest of the league
