WELL...PHIL Moss has acheived a perfect start to his stint as head coach as the boys snatched a 2-1 win over Perth Glory at nib Stadium on Saturday night....Glory ran out of bench with 20 to go..so that didnt help 'em any
An 4th minute injury-time volley from Dooks handed the Mariners their first win in Perth in four seasons
Glory played out the final 20 minutes with just 10 men after marquee signing William Gallas and left-back Scott Jamieson potentially suffered serious leg injuries.
Former France international Gallas, in his first start for Perth, was forced off with a suspected calf injury after just 32 minutes......But the biggest blow came when Jamieson had to be carried from the pitch on a stretcher midway through the second half after landing awkwardly on the pitch following an aerial contest. Looked like he popped his Achilles tendon.
Glory had already made their three substitutes for the evening when Jamieson was taken off.
It looked as though the home side was going to hold on for a draw after Jamie Maclaren's first-half goal was cancelled out Michael McGlinchey just 10 minutes later.
The Mariners also suffered an injury blow early in the often spiteful match when veteran midfielder Nick Montgomery hobbled off the pitch with a right leg injury after just seven minutes.
Maclaren then out-sprinted Mariners defender Trent Sainsbury after a brilliant pass from Jamieson and effortlessly chipped the ball over Liam Reddy...who, in my opinion, while doing a great job since being promoted, spends too much time outside his area for my liking, still...a good goal none the less from the Perth boys
But things soured in a matter of minutes for Glory when Central Coast levelled the score through McGlinchey, who hammered the ball into the back of the net after Michael Thwaite quite generously lined it up for him when he failed to clear the penalty area.
McGlinchey who appeared to be on a revenge mission after the All Whites drubbing, almost gave the Mariners the lead a few minutes later, but some desperate defending from Cameron Edwards denied the New Zealand international from scoring his second of the night.
OH and congrats to that numb nut, thug Jacob Burns for successfully finishing another game ...JERK
Deep into injury time an unmarked Duke pounced on the absence of Jamieson and sank the hearts of all Perth fans with his late volley in the dying stages of the match.
It actually was an improvement but there is still a long way to go. We had the majority of possession for a change although i doubt much of that was in Perth's half.
There was one moment when we had a free kick in their half and we had 3 players in the box and everyone else behind the ball....WTF.
On the positive side....
The back four looked the best they have looked all season. Griffiths looked like the answer.
Reddy continued his good form.
Simon and Duke in the same side is a handful for any side.
WeeMac grabbed the game by the scruff by the scruff of the neck.
Flores was looking like a leader and driving the players on around him.
Caceras looked good.
3pts WeeMac
2pts Duke
1pt Rose and Griff
Reddy 7. ...One fantastic save and commands his box quite well.
Storm Boy 7.... Looks quality and overlapped well in the second half.
Rose 7.5.... Impressive. Looked our best defender last night.
Tesco 7.... Got done very badly on their goal but apart from that was decent.
Griffo2. 7.5 ...Great debut. Wanted the ball and looked assured.
WeeMac 8.... Switched on after 30 mins and was great thereafter. Quality finish and unlucky not to have a brace. MOM.
Hutcho 4.... Ponderous and lazy.
Flores 7.5..... Showed lots of quality and desire.
Caceras 7.... We look better with him in the side.
Duke 7.5..... A real handful and scored a quality winner. He looked much better when he drove forward as he was ineffectual when we all sat far too deep in the first 30 mins.
Simon 7..... Worked hard and I thought he had pinched the equaliser.
Mossy 8..... Improvement in our shape and took a hard decision that paid off handsomely with the selection of Brett Griffiths.
.
SO....there you go, this may very well be the kickstart we needed.....NEXT
