Firstly ...The game in Seoul....and once again friggin ACL refs have bent us over....hope that liney got a good return in his account from his bookie...and that red for Marcel, one of our better players, was ridiculous...a yellow AT BEST....But having said all that...I thinks its fair to say that the home team were in 1st gear and if they had opened the pipes they woulda slaughtered us
I think we should of played Simon & Dukes at the same time...imagine the panic that woulda caused ( although one of 'em woulda probably been walked for giving a dirty look to a Seoul defender) AND the boys should of got the ball to Kim more...did he get more than 2 or 3 touches? ...is it a language thing I wonder? ....the body language of the two managers was remarkably different...the korean manager was waving his arms and shouting on the edge of his zone...and everytime i saw Mossy, he had his arms crossed or in his pockets
And what was up with our shirts, they looked like those blank advertising spaces you see at bus stops - we should at least have provided a phone number.
Now to the visit of The Smurfs .... seems the time in Korea doing video work and the small group discussions has paid off
The boys played about 83 minutes of outstanding footy...compared to recently anyway....little bit of lateral f**king about in the goal area but not as much as recently....Bernie, Dooks and Fitzy gelled together and Kim is settling in nicely ( did the smurf custodian even move?)...enjoying Matt Sims efforts...
and even Fast Eddie impressed before he got clattered twice in front of the ref for no joy....Bay 16 was outstanding as was the hardy folk in attendance who joined in on "who do we sing for" OH... and too that drooling dork dressed like a smurf trying to sneak into the bay to cause ruckus..did you think you were in stealth mode you twonk....
and finally, Sydneys Italian diving champion tried his fkn damndest and he had some help from that idiotic moron cretin ref....BUT...WE GOT 2 AND THEY GOT 1 DOO FKN DAH.....
The interchange in positions in the front 3rd was fantastic. Kim and fitzy swapping 10 and left wing and fitzy and sterj swapping flanks, all added to the movement and made it hard for sydney to track our players. Ibini against tired defenders is awesome, especially his dribbling and playing the ball out when the opposition is pressuring. Much better option than hitting long balls to release the pressure.....Duke proved he can be a handful against two of the better centre backs in the league.
My personal highlight was watching Reddy running up to and showing his Mariners badge to the cove at the end of the game. He's a keeper... As in keep him.
I thought Marcel had a brilliant game, he played probably his best Mariners game...BUT... I disliked only one single passage of his play, with 10 mins to go, when the ball was lobbed over our defence (our left hand side)....Matty Sim sprinted back and cleared (to the top tier of the western stand ). Whilst Sim was sprinting back to clear the ball I saw Anderson sprint back to edge of box, and I saw seip casually jog back.....Maybe Marcel had supreme confidence in Matty Sim having it covered...but there is always that chance a mistake could happen.
With Duke up front like he was on Sat night we looked more threatening & the passes to the strikers were on the ground (1:1 with keeper - Blocked + the goal came from passes on the ground) or anything with height was into space for him to chase......Unlike the East Gosford Windmill, who, when we hoof ball to his head, he turns it over 7/10 times.
it was just about the best 90 minute team performance I've seen from them all season. However the Smurfs didn't make it difficult for us to do that, unlike the teams who've smacked our bums over the last month.
I enjoyed that....We played decent Football for most of the game and actually had a go for a change......The crowd atmosphere was excellent tonight and Bay 16 although down in numbers was superb.
Was there really only 6500k??? I did my bit and brought 6 extra people along that were going to pike out because of the wet!
Bosnar looked great before going off.....Reddy was superb and probably MOM.
Sim looked really good when he came on......he might even be a better player than Josh....Fitzy was brilliant in the second half.
Hutcho was solid but still frustrating....mainly with his refusal to support our attacks.....Someone suggested Sterjovski might be Croatian for Passenger.
Sydney are pretty shit and ADP is nothing special at all.....The ref was an absolute Plum to be honest.
SO...there you the Smurf Report with some Korean takeaway on the side....can we maintain Saturdays form and make the semis ?.....I'd like to think so.....we got the Drive-bys and the Scummers coming for a visit...so its time to batten down the hatches
