CCM V MCFC ..The Touchup on the Coast
Its been a dodgy week for me with my medical stuff so Im just gonna let other Mariner fans give their thoughts about the "Entertainment" game plan (courtesy of the CCM Fans forum)....and of course their is always the might Wombat

I like Walmsley a lot, and his vision, but there's just no way around it, we very clearly lack enough quality, experience and depth in the squad.....Yes there is long term potential in possibly many of our young players, Austin, Liam Rose and Posc in particular continue to impress me, and we will likely continue to play some patches of great football.
But we are still very likely to go on losing, regardless of whether we change coaches or formation, because in every game the quality of other teams key players is shining through....An extra body in the middle should help with how often we are letting teams just play straight through the guts of us with in all honesty what are often just a few simple passes, and that will mean less of the critical decisions needing to be made by our defenders. So that's something. But it's obviously not going to help our to be fair active, but ineffective attack.

I was glad I went to the pre game and heard TW, he is very engaging and astute. No use calling for TW out because nobody could do much more with the squad we have this season....Moss could have lost that game by less but we all would have gone home just as demoralized. .....TW said that we spend the absolute salary cap floor, no marquees, no contracted youth league players and our turnover is $7m compared to City's $20m. The majority of the players are young and inexperienced and they are going to make mistakes - we sure saw that tonight. They dont have the experience of Zwanny, Sterj, Hutch, McBreen around them during the game. They will start winning however that may not be until the third round of games this season.

Let's face it. Anyone putting their hand up to coach the Mariners, with the funds we currently have available, deserves a medal.....The bit that hurts the most is that we have had 9 years of performing well above expectations. So we know it can be done. ....Sadly it seems the gulf between the 'elite' clubs and the rest is growing wider, despite the salary cap....Yet with a injury and suspension free squad and a 10% lift in performance, I still see us being competitive. Without that it looks like being a long road ahead with a wooden kitchen impliment waiting for us.

If we can put together our full team with Monty, Fab and all we are competive, but take a few out and we will always struggle. The positive is that i have no doubt the majority of the young players will become very good, but it will not be this season. Tony will need to pick the troops up and get everyone firing for the Perth game. If we can sang a win there and Monty and Fab stay fit then maybe something can be salvaged from this season. COYY!.... Lets face it we must be the cheapest and youngest squad ever assembled in the leagues history. Add in a new playing style and new coach/assistant coach/strength and conditioning coach, and we are definately doing things the hard way. However, we will get progressively better as time goes on. I had a look at the side once Roy and Rosey came off and thought Posco must be the oldest player in our side. Most of the side are going through a very steep learning curve. They will make mistakes. If we keep this side together for a few seasons, this season we will finish close to last or get the spoon....but next season we will easily make the six and the season after the 4. The good times will return.
PJENNINGS
After 9 rounds it is time for a review. We have played the top 5 teams in 6 games and haven't got a point. We have played the 6th, 7th and 9th teams in 3 games for a total of 5 points. We have not played the 10th team at all.....That tells me that the remaining 18 rounds should be easier than the first 9 rounds. We will play the 6th,7th, 9th and 10th teams in half the games. These are the games that will tell us where we are.
Ok
I've watched it on TV and it's nearly as bad as watching it live. Back 4 refuse to mark up and midfield give the ball away constantly.
Isso 3. Didn't make a single save. Trott like.
Roux 3. Pathetic. My friend dubbed him the rover...as it no fixed position. Positionally the worlds worst fullback ( apart from Micky
Neill) since Ian Harte of Leeds.
McGing 6. Still raw but tried hard.
Posco 5.5. Poor game but still put in a good effort. Simple marking errors killed his game.
Rose 5. Poor. Not sure if he passed to feet all game?
Caceras 6. Another weak display. Played one sublime ball to Austin but game the ball away a lot.
Rose 5.5. Gave the ball away every single time he had it but still showed some glimpses of a useful player.
Fitz 5. A couple of quality moments but overall simply rubbish.
Ashcroft 7. Did pretty well to contain Mooy.
Austin 7. Mom
Paddy 5.5....missed some easy changes.
