SO...there we have it, game 1, round 1 out of the way...If this was week 5 or 6 I'd be concerned. but It's game 1.....lets get the MoM out of the way....
Matty 3 pts... thank f**k he had his game face on
Rogic 2 pts... done good...keep it up
1 pt... dunno. Probably Dutchy and Duke's for a tie
I got to start with a word about our new Captain...don't get me wrong, I like Hutcho, his a pest on the park and his a team original, having said that, you dont make a dock worker CEO of a company cause his got long service up his sleeve, I dont think its a stretch to suggest that like Brad Porter, the A-League has passed by our new Captain....I think Pat shoulda got the gig and since you cant really bench the captain, does this mean we aint gonna see Monty much?....ANYWAY
The A-Leagues new kids, the Westie Wanderers done good for their first official hit-out...they pressed our boys hard, real hard in fact, and seemed keen to make an impression. We on the other hand looked stable, but we left our agro at Tuggerah methinks, yep we was a bit toothless.
Nothing to be overly concerned with in our performance, but nothing to be too excited by either (though Tommy deserves some kudos)
I thought Duke's tried hard but he seemed to be isolated up front all night...Sterj struggled a bit as the game went on and looked simply unable to involve himself much at that pace that was set
Dukes was going alright but never really looked imposing until Bernie came on...SO...how about two dedicated strikers from now on Arnie?...could be a good idea..Also Hearfield and Dukes seem mto have got some sort of on field connection going on...SO..where was troy? was he hurt.
Pello did some decent stuff in the first 10-15 (as usual), but he is not a Defensive Mid and has the attention span of a thing with no attention span....I reckon since you brought Monty over, USE HIM...I mean after all he showed better positioning awareness than "Donkey " Pellogrino did, Monty seemed to be stronger, on and off the ball. Peller's might have lost a few kg's but he still shouldn't start. He just upsets the team balance.
Pedj was back at nhis old stomping ground of Parramatta Stadium...pity he sucked...young Trent Sainsbury played well, he might just do all right taking Wilko's possie
our Vice capatain, Zwaanje played wel, but has to get rid of the ball just a smidge quicker...ACTUALLY...take that as a hint for the whole team.
Rosey - ok, but his better when he has Olly in front of him.
Captain , my captain...Hutcho had a solid match...not much in the way of errors, but he was unable to motivate a fairly uninspired looking team in the second half when they were moving forward.
Weemac - eee gads, done alright but get him back on the right.
Rogic, not a perfect performance, but he played better than some of what he did last year and we got a full ninety minutes out of him, and to be honest, Tommy showed many moments of ability, he must of scared the WSW guys, cause they hacked him
The only change's I would make for next week at home vs The Glory would be Montgomery on for Pellers and starting with a 4-4-2 diamond with Sterj and Duke together. Bernie can come on with 30-35 to go and cause some damage then.
Still.....I have the feeling we sidestepped a projectile on that one......
quick word about the WSW fans, seem's a few of them were there only to start a ton of shit, friends of mine went to the game and got harangued while waiting for the coach back to the coast....the derby between the Westie's and the Smurf's could very well erupt into back AND front page news, unless the hoon element of the Red and Black Block don't get stepped on....the last thing the A-League need's is to give Rebecca Wilson some ammo.
