WELCOME TO THE FIRST BLOGAROO FOR THE YEAR
first things first...an add for some friends of mine and total Mariner tragic's
the Bay 16 shop
Now, first things first.....THE MARINERS COMINGS AND GOINGS (well, some of 'em anyway)
FIRSTLY...The Gawnski's
Bernie the Smurf....Yet another case of, if he just shut up and left that would of been fine and dandy...BUT...Bernie had to utter something ridiculous about too much travel to get to Gosford, he knows that 80% of the CCM fanbase travel 3 hours a day right?...idiot
Marcos the Jet....Sadly El Giraffe has departed the coast to go play with the Scummers cause the Mariners didnt want to pick up his wages after the loan deal with Victory ran out...sad really that as much as he did for reaching out to the community, money and his knee injury was the thing that killed his chances of staying.
WEE MAC...Some people are calling him Wee Judas, I wouldnt be that harsh, BUT, it does seem he tried some sneaky shenanigans to circumvent his Mariners contract to go play with the Nix...I dont pretend to understand all the finagling going on ...I think I want to blame his manager, those bludgers are the bane of every pro sport...anyway after much whoo Haa, he bought out his contract and is a now a Nux-l.head
oh yeah and the one that has created much cheering and woohoos was Marcel Seip heading back home...sure he didnt do much, but was he that bad?
AND THE HIYA'S
Richard Vernes and Malick Mane (among others) have landed at Fortress Bluetongue...they boys have both had a hit out thus far, and seem to be settling in nicely...cant wait to see them kick bejeezus out of the opposition
PRE SEASON MATCH
MARINERS V MAN CITY SOUTH @ LISMORE
Central Coast Mariners Squad
(Lismore 2014): John Hutchinson (C), Josh Rose, Zac Anderson, Nick Montgomery, Anthony Caceres, Nick Fitzgerald, Mitchell Duke, Daniell Zelený (Triallist), Nick Petrillo (NYL), Liam Reddy (Gk), Glen Trifiro, Anthony Kalik, Richárd Vernes, Adam Pearce (Gk) (NYL), Tom Slater, Michael Neill, Hayden Morton, Isaka Cernak, Brent Griffiths, Eddy Bosnar, Kim Seung-yong, Malick Mané, Matt Sim, Mason Versi (NYL), Jake McGing (NYL)
Wasnt expecting much, it was only a trial after all...BUT....We struggled to put passes together that actually had us going forward & defensively we were scrappy..... the boys had been training hard during the camp in Lismore, We`ll be better for the run but need a few more games before we`re ready to open the season..... Cernak and Slater will be lucky to make match day squads.....

Malick seemed alright, gets in good positions but gets a little over excited when it's time to take the players onand at times showed composure & an ability to cut the ball back to the top of the box (no one was working with him there to do something with it but I think that was more to do with who was playing......oh yeah, and much cudos to VPALIVE for the excellent quality of the feed for the game...one of the best feeds I've seen
THE LISMORE VERSION
Hutcho had a Barry Crocker....Sim, Slater and Cernak are not starting 11 material....Reddy was excellent....The midfield was toothless and our defence at set pieces was shambolic.....Not many positives really although we improved in the second half.....Kallic looks a very good prospect in his short spell.....better than Caceras....Kim wasn't too bad....Mane can take a penalty very well....The Hungarian looks very very good.....We are very disorganised and disjointed at the moment...We looked better with Duke on the field
THE DRAW WITH THE ROAR AT BALLYMORE
Moss’s Mariners ended up with a 1-1 draw with Roar @ Ballymore thanks to Fitzys well-taken 43rd minute goal. After a bit of good work between Cernak and Dooks, Fitzy bursting with confidents, struck his left foot strike beyond Brisbane keeper Jamie Young
Indeed, the Mariners enjoyed the better of the opportunities in the first 45 at Ballymore, with Cernak and Duke having chances to break the deadlock before Fitzgerald did.
Mossy made four substitutions after half time and perhaps this, combined with some more enterprising play by Brisbane in the second half, the Roar began to enjoy more opportunities in attack..... Henrique, who was introduced into the game in the 59th minute at the expense of Jean Carlos Solarzano, was at the heart of Roar’s best moments, and with just over ten minutes to play he restored parity to the contest...you would think we would have the midget sussed by now after all his done to us
Henrique sent a crisp strike beyond Liam Reddy to make the score then, and at full-time, 1-1.
THE FFA CUP
WOOHOO I thought when the powers that be announced the kick starting of the the FFA Cup...I was very happy to see that the sport was getting a version of the famous F.A Cup...THEN...after the opening round and after much who haa about everyone supporting their local team and supporting the brand new knockout comp...The FFA has banned clubs from live streaming their games on websites...your kidding right?...maybe we should be pointing the finger at bloody Foxtel, either which way, bloody poor form Mr Gallop....
MARINERS V WOLLONGONG...sorry....SOUTH COAST WOLVES
the Mariners had their round of 16 hit out playing the once vaunted SouthCoast (formerly known as The Woloongong) Wolves...A team I still say , should have a squad in the A-League proper, Hell, they supplied enough talent over the millenium to warrant even a consideration.
I thought overall it was a pretty good game taking into account our match fitness. Most of the scrappiness can be attributed to tiredness. Once Hutch and Malick came on we were back in control. I really liked the look of Mane. Every time he got a touch he created something. He is a very different player to Mitch Duke. Will be really interesting to see how Mossy uses him. His balls in behind the defence were great and he wasn't afraid to take players on and draw the defense out. Could be very exciting come season proper
I'm sorry but Cernak is woeful. Flashes of skill but seems lazy and never really got in good positions to receive the ball and when he did made poor choices. Not a fan at all....as a matter of fact we call him ISuck AtSokkah at Casa del Recky
Fitzy looked as if he didn't want to be there in the second half. He and Monty were not seeing eye to eye and he drifted out of the game for stretches - including one time when a ball went across the top of the box while he stood and watched. He's got to gamble on those chances coming up. First half he was OK, with his movement around Duke causing issues.
Duke and Mane are quite different players, which is good. Mane appears to be happier in tight places where he'll try to break free with a clever touch, where Duke will go with a burst of acceleration. Mane looks to be more aware of his teammates though - Duke gets tunnel vision. Each is going to have their uses. With them on, I can see merit to us playing a diamond 4-4-2 or even a 3-5-2 at times this year, because there's going to be quite a bit of variety between them.
Tonight LIVE from some cavenous dome in BrisVegas the boys took on Olympic FC.....I didnt actually get to see the game cause Gallop and his cronies took it upon themselves to NOT promote the importance of the Cup by banning streaming and or telling Foxtel to show more than one game .
SO much thanks to the chaps at Coast FM 96.3 on an OUTSTANDING call of the match
We got off to a flying start 2 minutes in when Fitzy smacked one home
then came Matty Sim with a contribution finally followed up Mr FFA Glen "Triffers" Triffiro with yet another cup goal...lads on fire
The crowd was miserably small. clearly, the Olympic FC faithful don't travel?, mind you, if you commute more than 30 minutes to a job in the city in Brissy, they think your mad
the stadium doesn't look spectator friendly to me , football spectator friendly, that is. I think they must have been expecting more than the 1,500 ground capacity at Goodwin Park to move it there, but got a miserable 800 or so die-hards.
In hindsight they would probably have been better off playing the game in the much more spectator friendly smaller oval next door to QE2, 2,500 capacity, spectators close to the action, and limited the ticket only sales to that capacity.
After all, they didn't use the large field to satisfy Foxtel's broadcast requirements, did they?
Anyway, Mossys men did what was needed to get the win, and onto the round of 8. And MOST importantly in the pre-season....NO INJURIES.
the blogaroo for the round of 8 will be along shortly...(soon as they play it )
