It was a funny sort of day, hot as hell, I mean stinging hot, just prior to kickoff...The excitement of the season opener, having not had any pre-season games at The Fortress to get used to the players, and playing the Jets.
The expectation was there, the build up & everything, but it all fell flat.
And once again Bay 16 provided yet another classy pullover...well done guys
The main problem is the same as last year, we cant seem to transition from defence to midfield....Our transition from midfield to the front is fine...BUT THEM BLOKES UP THE BACK...geez
Just getting Ando and Bosnar to pass to Kim/Duke/Caceras etc is a struggle.
Not calling Malick the best Mariners this year, yet, Mane for the moment, was our best player but running at Reagan and Chapman is something I would expect of all starting A-League strikers
What really irks me, as it did last year, is watching Anderson take a free kick and pass it to Bosnar who then passes it back to him; Ando then has to adjust his feet, take a look, think about it, strike a pose, and then pass it back to Reddy to hack downfield, or out to Roux who by now has two men on him....F**KING STOP !
Mane was the highlight . He showed so much energy, some flair but with little support he was left to do the bulk of the attacking....Second half looked a bit better but the thought that the Jet`s were just a little bit shittier than us never left my mind.
Dukey`s last minute goal though was just rewards for his hard work during the game & made the result a truer reflection of the game....
Mane impressed, I'll be surprised if he dont end with quite a collection of goals...maybe him and Dooks should work out a team thing like Shearer & Ferdinand or Yorke and Cole had going back in the day......and after seeing the alledged smack in the gob Kim got...that diving shit has got to go, I know its a valid tactit in some parts of the world...but it dont wash here.
Matt Sim and Storm Roux need to learn ruthless aggression when in front, Sims shots were soft as, and Roux , all he had to do was stick his foot out and it would of gone in...and I thinks its fair to say that Sim should NEVER start in front of Fitzy as of now...and Cernak came on and did nothing AGAIN...BUT...what can you do...upwards and onwards says I...we got a win...By the by...were was Vernes?
AND THEN Flores came on and to say he wasnt greeted with affection is an understatement...Obviously I dont know what went on behind the scenes, but, Flores said that the club didnt support him after the knee went south (or something like that)...Well, all I can say is they coulda flicked him when he did it, but they mad him the public face of the club AND gave him a sendoff when he was leaving...I can only hope it was mind games, cause if thats what he really feels, then i'm deleting all the photos I got taken with him, I fkn hate ingrates something terrible
All we need was fewer unforced errors and better understanding between players. if players like Fitz, Duke, Caceres, Trifiro can get some flow going with Mane we're going to lay in the goals - and is only a matter of time before that understanding comes.
I think I can see where Mossy is going with this team and frankly I'm excited. with the understanding growth between players I think we'll see some fantastic stuff
And finally, how about the look on Crawleys face when Dukes potted the winner...less than impressed dont cover it...he wasnt alone by a long shot
Well that was shite if I'm honest....Thank God we got out of jail but we were playing probably the worst team in the comp and were very lucky to get the points......The set up is horrible. Wake up Mossy! Are we men or mice because me play like we are addicted to cheese and are happy to draw every game with the occasional sneaky 1 nil win.
JC wasnt impressed, He wasn't alone.....Pre-season was poor.
1st game of the season was poor.....Let's move on.
Positives were the crowd numbers, Mane and Zac Anderson.
The fact that we don't seam to learn is the most worrying thing.
We have the players to be a force we just don't send out our best team and we don't play a decent formation.
The game against the Bogan scum was just a continuation of our poor performances in the pre-season.
Reddy 5.5. A couple of great saves but sloppy at times.
Roux 6. Missed an open goal by not backing himself. Solid defensively but didn't create much.
Ando 7. Good game. Looked quite impressive.
Bosnar 7. Decent.
Rose 6. You can do better Rosie. With our pathetically defensive set up we need you to attack down the flanks as f**k all is going to be created up the middle.
Kim 6. Firstly toughen up Princess, you are not rolling around for Sydney FC. Mixed game, great in patches but not consistant.
Hutch 5.5. I don't want to comment.
Monty 7. Good game.
Sim 6. Two terrible misses. Sim is a solid pro but showed that Mossy is a state league coach by starting him in front of Vernes and Fitz.
Mane 8. Our best player.
Duke 6. Worked hard and did a lot defensively but that is not his job. The goal looked like a lucky shank.
Moss 3. We were gash again. The set up is terrible. The obvious changes at half time were Hutcho for Caceras and sim for Vernes.
We fluked as win against a shit side.
Shit and boring Football.....I had to apologise to my guest who had never been to a Football game before......thankfully the YA and band kept him somewhat entertained.
So there you go, first one of the year.......FFA Cup on Tuesday night...Give em hell boys
