RND 15: THE ATTACK OF THE KILLER SMURFS
Well that sucked... At least we went better than the jest...JUST
to start the run up to the match was the promotion for the game and that was a godawful disgrace...who thought that was a good idea...the people behind this photoshopped image should be hung out to dry, what on earth were they thinking, more than likely they weren't .....firstly the muppet that came up with it ,then secondly the bigger muppet of CEO who fkn approved it.....pay peanuts get monkeys....anyway to the game
We were beyond bad tonight.
Front to back, the boys just were not good enough....Front third was toothless. Two one on ones should have gone in...although I must say that the smurf marking Matty Simon appeared to have sewn himself to Simons shirt, very tight defending
I dont get the team selection process, and havent done most of the Moss era, the last game v MCFC, Cernak and Vernes created chance after chance, and now neither got on the field , Fitzy didn't get into the game and provided little, Brosque and Bernie were largely unmarked even when Monty came on , gave them a heap of time to feed their front two.
I think its fair to suggest that each of the back four contributed a goal , ball watching , out of position, very average. Reddy was not to blame at all and pulled off a couple of super saves.
Our passing was piss poor and we were second to the ball 97% of the time AND the boys couldnt seem to get out of their own way, very lethargic performance.
For a team that had two weeks to prepare for this game we were pathetic.....Monty said after the game that "the gaffer had a game plan & we just didn`t stick to it".....If that`s the case then wholesale changes need to be made....For a start if Hutcho can`t control the side on field then he should move to the splinter, Ando gifted the goal that nailed us so he should be holding hands with Hutcho......Mossy needs a kick in the arse too. we play the same way as we did in the first round, its just stupid...probably the worst thing I saw on the field was when Brosque, Bernie and Branko were in our D passing the ball to each other AND NO ONE STOPPED THEM !
Simply put, Arnie just got players behind the ball & then we defended for them by playing back.....When we started to play direct we actually had them on the back foot.....Not really rocket science is it.'
The 3 week break sure didnt appear to help matters any, Mossy said the boys trained the house down during the break maybe he overcooked them....BUT, Rosey did have a moment of clarity and toughness, when he went for a sprint and got the ball to young travis who scored hs debut ...they made that look easy...could of done with that level of grunt from the off...Now to our rock solid defence...Pos kept getting caught way out of position, Bosnar was too busy yelling at people while letting smurfs run around him, Ando, well, Ive never liked his style of play and Rosey, he must of been over excited about re-signing....long gone are the days of Zwaanjie
AND werent the officials having a cracker....the first Sydney goal was off a handball, and it went downhill from there, the amount of offsides was ridiculous, we didnt have the ball that much....
1) Posco is a CB - not a RB - second goal
2) Ando is not a CB - he is a male model - third and 4th goal
3) Rose misjudged the cross terribly - first goal
Poscos defending was terrible. Rose was the best of the back four and he was rubbish. The centre backs were clueless especially Anderson.
Why revert back to our usual clueless defensive formation and play Duke on the wing after having our first win in 12 or so games and Duke being on fire against City and us coming out of our shell and actually having a dig for a change.
Ok....it's time to break cover......Moss has to go....he has to stop sending us out with one arm tied behind our back....We are shambolic. Our defending is atrocious. Our midfield has zero penetration and never drives through the middle.
The only person that played well was Monty, who has to start every game. Caceras is just not good enough to hold on to that shirt....Fitzy had a go but is a headless chook.
That would be the worst I have ever seen us play. Sydney players in the final third were taking the piss like it was a training run.....I spoke to the husband of one of my workers who is from Melbourne and only knows about AFL but even he said ( only his second ever game) "we are so static....there is just no movement and Sydney look so much better on the ball".
Now the storm has cleared there's a few things I'd like to throw out there.
1 - We support the team through whatever trials and tribulations they go through and generally speaking, as fans we are pretty honest with how we went game to game. I've just watched the post game presser and I'm actually embarrassed. What part of the game weren't we outclassed in? What part did we deserve something out of?
Personally I didn't see us making the finals this year purely on the strength of the league. Every club had recruited extremely well, except us and the Scummers.
I like Mossy, as a bloke. He's always greeted me with a handshake and a few words and I respect that. As a manager he is struggling, struggling to get a side to play a style he says he wants them to play. Last nights result wasn't a shock, let's be realistic. Sydney are a quality side and got better over the break. This result was coming for months regardless of our last 2 matches before the break.
People say we have been spoilt by the success we have had? We expect success, it's why you support a sporting team. This whole underdog/over achieving tag is bullshit. We've played on it forever and I'm actually suprised it's not been trotted out this week though the brilliant marketing campaign went down that road.
2 - At the moment we are a lost club. A club built on respect and people that were here to do the best for the club and what it stood for. At the moment we are a laughing stock. Last weeks pathetic excuse for a promo was the end. If we continue with the same managerial leadership then why should we continue to give them our money? The answer is obviously because we support the team and they know that and have little regard for it.
Losing people like Lawrie kills whatever hope you have of getting the community respect back. It's a problem that could well cause us to fall further down the pipe and eventually there may not be a way back.
The only thing we as fans are capable of doing is turning up to support the team. You don't have to support the ideas of the club to support the team, I don't and haven't for years.
The players are hurting after last night, as are we. This next few weeks is make or break, not just for our season but for next season and beyond.
Regardless of how shit the club sells itself there are thousands who will support them, last night showed that so if the owner wants to know what needs to be done now I've got a suggestion.
You start at the top and work down.
Adelaide next...if they play like they did v The jests, its gonna be double figures, if we play like we did v MCFC, maybe not
